Red House (Manhattan)
The Red House is a 1903 apartment building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was built on land owned by Canadian architect R. Thomas Short of the Beaux-Arts firm, Harde & Short. He and his firm designed and built the building in a free eclectic mix of French late Gothic. and English Renaissance motifs, using red brick and limestone with bold black-painted mullions in the fenestration. The salamander badge of Henri II appears high on the flanking wings and in the portico frieze. The center is recessed, behind a triple-arched screen. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 8, 1983. Lodzia House ( he, בית לודז'יה), also known as HaBayit Ha'adom ('the Red House'), is an historic building located at 43 Nahmani Street in Tel Aviv, Israel. History The building was erected in 1924 by Akiva Aryeh Weiss, one of the founders of Tel Aviv. It was built as a textile factory by the architectural firm Joseph Berlin & Richard Pacovský, and named Łódź in honor of the Polish industrial city. The building stood empty for many years before being purchased in 2010 by an Israeli couple, entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronny Douek and actress Yael Abecassis. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University (), commonly known as the Red House Hospital (), is a teaching hospital in Shanghai, China, affiliated with the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University. It is rated Grade 3, Class A, the highest rating in the Chinese medical system. Founded in 1884 as Margaret Williamson Memorial Hospital for Women and Children, by Elizabeth Reifsnyder, it was the first hospital opened in Shanghai exclusively for the care of Chinese women and children. It was located on Siccawei Road in the Shanghai French Concession, outside the West Gate (Ximen) of the Chinese city (now in Huangpu District); for this reason, it was commonly known as the Ximen or West Gate Hospital (). The Red House is an 18th-century William and Mary style house located in Youghal, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The Red House is the seat of Parliament in Trinidad and Tobago. The architectural design of the Red House is of Beaux-Arts style. The original building was destroyed in the 1903 Water Riots and was rebuilt in 1907. The Red House is located centrally within the capital city Port of Spain. It is currently used as a meeting place for parliament and elections and for political uses. Red House, located on Vavaea Ridge in Honiara, Solomon Islands, is the official residence of the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands. The residence is a single story wood siding building on stilts. The name of the home is in reference to the red colour roof. History The house was built in the 1950s for the then-colonial Secretary for Finance and later Chief Minister of the British Solomon Islands. It became the Prime Minister's residence in 1978.
